The leadership of the Democratic Party had a singular obligation to reject Zohran Mamdani's candidacy for mayor of NYC. Instead, they supported him, explicitly or through their silence.

The French use the word "l'entrisme," to describe what the DSA is doing with the Democratic Party. The best equivalent word in English would be "infiltration." The Communists in the 1930's infiltrated liberal and left-wing groups and subverted the organizations in order to align the groups goals and resources to the needs of the Soviet Union. In France, the issue is that the Muslim Brotherhood has taken over moderate Muslim organizations, i.e. "l'entrisme," which the French government has identified as contrary to the interests of France. We've seen this in the US and Europe with regard to Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch which have seen their original goals subverted, at least in part, by both leftists and Islamists. Which gets me back to DSA, an organization whose goals are neither democratic (viz. the German Democratic Republic), nor socialist, in the modern non-communist sense of the word. Eventually, the Democrats are going to have to expel them, just as the AFL-CIO expelled the Communists.
