I've long thought that Israel is basically Batman. They both do what has to be done, ethically, but not always legally, and save the world from psychopaths, in return for which, they are reprimanded by the authorities who can't be seen to be involved.

That said, I do believe that the ruling elite of UK and Europe have become so intellectually stagnant and self-hating that they genuinely believe the stuff they're saying about "avoiding escalation" and maintaining the status quo. They won't acknowledge that the status quo as on 6 October 2023 allowed Hamas to cross the border and murder over a thousand Israelis and kidnap 250 more and that until last night we were heading to a situation where Iran could hold the world to nuclear ransom (like the Joker).

Multiple US administrations and EU governments urged Israel to display restraint for decades. They urged Israel to allow Hamas to run in Palestinian elections in 2006. We got October 7 thanks to them and an Iran loaded with ballistic missiles, funded with sanctions relief to back multiple civil wars, and a nuclear weapons program nearly at completion. Fuck Europe and fuck those in the US who forced Israel to stand back while Iran engaged in decades of belligerence and terrorism.

The Arab condemnations are just for form. The Sunni world is drinking champagne in the back chambers.

I get that these are diplomats and their statements are protocol, but given everything that has happened since 10/7/23 (well even before that!) can the international community just shut up if it is not going to be supportive?
